Get out and explore! Excursions are offered on all semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are offered between two to three excursions and summer study abroad students are offered between one to two excursions. You’ll receive a calendar of excursions during onsite orientation. Here are examples of excursions we have offered most recently.

Siena

One of Italy’s most picturesque and international medieval cities, Siena is home to well-preserved Gothic architecture and is the birthplace of one of Italy’s patron saints. Siena may be best known for its annual summer horse races, whose origins go back to the 1300s (Remember the horseracing scene in James Bond’s “Quantum of Solace”?). 

Bologna

Bologna is best known for its medieval towers, porticoed streets, and hearty cuisine. It’s also home to Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088. 我们将参观这所大学的主要历史建筑和解剖剧院, 第一次解剖是在哪里进行的，以培养大学背景下的医生. We'll treat you to a group lunch before you have time to explore Bologna on your own. 

Pisa & Lucca

Italian Cooking Class

Florence is world-renowned for its luxury paper products; lucky for you, local artisans are happy to share their techniques and know-how. A master craftswoman will help you create a handmade paper box or journal to remind you of your time in Florence.

It can be easy to skim the surface of Florence… but we want you to dig deeper to discover more of our city’s spaces, stories, history and reality. Authorized guides take you to places off the beaten path to see and experience the real Florence and organized meetings with locals will help you learn about its citizens.

Volunteering Program: CEA CAPA C’È

  • Serving as English Teaching Assistant

  • Guiding tours of some of the most important monuments in Florence (training provided)
  • Working for a soup kitchen

Language Exchange

Speaking Italian with locals is a great way to better your language skills and make new friends. We’ll team you up with Italian peers in a structured setting so you can practice your Italian and help them practice their English.

Active Learning

Active Learning opportunities help you integrate CEA CAPA’s cultural activity offerings with the subjects you study in class. This award-winning program places importance on your reflections during and after the activity, which then serve as the basis for a class assignment. Be Active!

Choose to live in a CEA CAPA apartment along with an Italian university student as one of your roommates. Your Italian roommate will be a true part of your Florentine experience and household, 让你有机会更容易地与当地社区接触. Living with a local family allows you to learn so much about the Florentine lifestyle —and Italian family life in general —that you wouldn’t otherwise experience. Homestays are located in apartments either inside or outside Florence’s historical city center. Don’t worry about needing to speak perfect Italian before moving in with an Italian family: our host families are chosen for their interest in learning about you and your culture, and many have a working knowledge of English, too. While some families are empty-nesters, we do privilege younger families: both offer you an important connection with the Florentine community.

The homestay option will not hinder your freedom with a curfew, and you can even choose to live with a friend of your choice!

Use the online housing application form to request permission for this option no later than the application closure date. Professors at the CEA CAPA Florence Center carefully evaluate students' work and progress throughout their academic session. When calculating final grades, instructors consider written and oral exercises, homework assignments, attendance, classroom participation, and exam performance.

Credit Transfer Information

SRISA curricula and class schedules follow a U.S. university model. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Transcript Information

Classroom and Information
